Changing your Password on Windows

Changing your password requires three fundamental steps. How you complete the steps depends on the operating system you are using (Windows or Mac) and your location (PBS office or away from the office).

Connect to the PBS network.
Navigate to the password changing screen.
Allow the computer to synchronize or cache the password for future, disconnected use.

The Solution Center also recommends that you sign out of Microsoft Teams before you change your password. Closing the Teams window does not sign you out of Teams. Click on your profile picture and choose “Sign Out.”

Steps in Detail:

1. Connect to the PBS network.

How you connect to PBS’ network depends on your location.

If you are in the office, you can use the Ethernet cable or Internal Wi-Fi network. (Only Wifi_Regular or Wifi_EMM give you access to the PBS network.).
If you are away from the office, you need to use VPN to connect to the network.

2. Navigate to the password changing screen

If you are in the office, press Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose “Change a Password.”
If you are not in the office, and your password has not expired, connect to VPN first, then press Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose “Change a Password.”

3. Synchronize or Cache the Password

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose Lock.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and use your new password to unlock the computer. At this point, Windows verifies your password and caches it for authentication and offline use.

Expired password:

If your password is expired, go to https://solutioncenter.pbs.org, choose Password Self-Service and follow the instructions. Complete the forgot my password procedure, then complete steps 1 and 3 on this guide.

Notes and Resources:

If you use multiple PBS computers, you need to complete steps 1 and 3 on each computer you use. If the computers are in the office and connected to the network, this process is transparent, you don’t even know it happened. If you are away from the office, you will have problems until you are able to complete steps 1 and 3.
It’s important to know that if you have not completed steps 1 and 3 on the computer you’re trying to use, then the computer won’t recognize the new password. Log in the computer using the previous password, then complete steps 1 and 3. However, since you already changed the network password from a different computer, you need to use the new password for step 1.
If you have personal computers setup to access PBS applications, then each application may need the password updated depending on how it is configured.
If you have a smartphone and\or tablet, apps will prompt you for the new password.
Finally, Microsoft Teams requires you to sign out and sign back in after a password change. It’s not enough to close the application, you must click on your profile picture and choose “Sign Out.”
